Level 2 Adult Care Worker
Overview
The Level 2 Adult Care Worker apprenticeship makes you adept to provide frontline care for vulnerable adults within their homes, daycare centres, residential and nursing homes, and other healthcare.
Duration
The apprenticeship will typically take between 12 and 18 months to complete.
Occupational profile
An Adult Care Worker is a frontline staff who helps adults with care and support and must show a positive and compassionate attitude while doing so. Safety also remains to be a major concern.
Care Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Personal Assistant, Relief Team Worker, Support Worker – Supported Living, Key Worker in Residential Settings, Key Worker in Domiciliary Services, Key Worker in Day Services, Home Care Support Worker, Substance Misuse Worker, Learning Disability Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Mental Health Outreach Worker and Re-enablement Worker.
The workers are expected to display care, compassion, courage, communication, competence, and commitment in their course of duty.
Level
This apprenticeship standard is at Level 2.
Qualifications
The apprentice must undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result before starting.
The individual must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate. The Care Quality Commission expect that providers that employ healthcare assistants and social care support workers follow these standards to make sure new staff are supported, skilled and assessed as competent to carry out their roles.
Career progression
This apprenticeship provides an ideal entry into the occupation and supports progression within the sector.
Individuals without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to taking the end-point assessment.
For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language
qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.
Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
Overview
The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship prepares the learners for leading frontline care for vulnerable adults within their own homes, daycare centres, residential, and nursing homes and other healthcare settings.
Duration
The apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete.
Occupational Profile
Lead Adult Care Workers are deployed in the frontline and help make adults more independent with their care and support. This also enables them to achieve their personal goals and have more control over their actions. The Lead Adult Care Worker is also responsible for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgment and accountability.
Typical job titles include Care Officer, Care Supervisor, Senior Care Worker, Supervising Care Worker, Senior Support Worker, Relief Team Leader, Social Work Assistant, Social Services Officer, Outreach Development Worker, Community Support Worker, Community Outreach Worker, Community Development Worker, Family Support Worker or Personal Assistant. These could all specialise in a variety of areas such as learning disability, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, homecare, dementia and end-of-life care.

The apprenticeship will typically take 18 months to complete.

The Leader in Adult Care has typical job responsibilities such as guiding and inspiring teams to make positive differences in someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. They lead the care team and imbibe a value-based culture within the team. They also have roles in business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as risk management and leading organisational change.
Level
This apprenticeship standard is at Level 5.
Qualifications
The Level 5 Leader in Adult Care needs to have the following:
